TLDoS#6 Pool Party!

Ever since I saw this straw stamping design on Spektor's Nails, I knew I needed to try it. When I saw Pool Party on the list for The Lazy Days of Summer, an idea was born! It looked exactly like bubbles to me! So this morning, I gathered up my blues and stopped by the White Spot on campus to pick up a straw and sat down to get 'er done =D

I used Essence Let's Get Lost from my last post as the base.

The first colour I put down using the straw was Essence Walk on Air (apparently one of my favourites, since I seem to be using it all the time haha!). Because the straw edge is so thin, it was hard to pick up colour. I basically put down a drop on a newspaper and swirled the end of the straw in it.

The next colour I used was Ulta Snow White. This ended up being easier to pick up because the dried Walk on Air had thickened the edge of the straw.

After that, Essence again, but this time You Belong To Me. I think my left hand turned out better than my right. This is always weird because I'm left-handed. OH WELL =D

Right hand!
Left hand!
I felt something was missing, so I added on a layer of my new treasure, Nyx Crystal, which I found for $1 at my local Save On Foods. I love sales =D

Surprisingly, Nyx Crystal doubled as a topcoat, drying completely smooth! I'm impressed.

If you wanna try this, I recommend several things.
  1. Build up the edge of the straw a little bit, so the nail polish has something to stick to and you get a better stamp.
  2. Make sure you're using relatively opaque polishes.
  3. Find a smaller straw than the normal soft drink ones from fast food chains.
I really need to catch up on this challenge so I can get to wearing all my Rainbow Honeys! Expect more nail art posts to come =D

I think it turned out alright though? How about you?

  1. I know those are bubbles, but from the thumbnail on my dashboard, it looked a lot like waves too! Awesome effect.

  2. It totally does look like waves! Also, seagulls flying over the water. Whatever, it's awesome! This has been one of my to-dos for a while, but that stupid list just keeps getting longer and longer and yeah, it's very much like the Pratchett quote about Tiffany's brother! (which I saw you mention at Jen's blog and stalked you over here to see which one you used ;p) Anyway, I'll be stoked if mine come out near this well. I've been hoarding straws. ^_^

    1. Thank you so much! And thanks for following! I stalked you back to your blog and OMG IT IS SO COOL (you gained a new follower ;) ). I used the same single straw btw. Like I said, subsequent applications got easier because the nail polish thickened the edge of it =P
It's super easy, but good luck - I can't wait to see what you come up with <3!
