NailPolishCanada.com Summer Nail Art Challenge!

Woohoo! If you've been following my facebook you know that this is one of the most ambitious nail designs I have undertaken for a long time. I was contacted by NailPolishCanada (as I have been a couple times before :D) to enter their nail art contest and the theme was SUMMER.

(sorry I want it to be easy to find)

After pondering for a bit, I decided the most quintessential summer experience I had was when I went to Cuba. In Cuba, though I didn't do this myself, my friends did go snorkeling and make friends with some tropical fish.

To Google!

I used a LOT of colours for this one so I'm going to list them at the bottom of the post I think. In the pic above (which I got from googling "tropical fish" and taking the ones that I had colours for) it goes thumbs to pinkies from left to right. Check it out!

This is before topcoat. I was super paranoid it was going to ruin something so here you go.

Luckily it didn't ruin anything AND the sun came up in the morning for a bit so I could get some quality pics.

So it's obviously a skittles mani and I'll leave it for you to decide whether it's that coherent but at least it's tied by the theme of tropical fish, right?

The pic below is a feat because I took it myself by holding my phone between my knees. #bloggerlyfe

Also just lemme gush about those bornprettystore.com brushes and how thin the freaking lines are on the clownfish nail. Like wow. Dang.

Okay! As for colours... I'm going to go in the same order as the fish in the first pic, I'm sure you can figure it out though.

Left
Index: Essence Wanna Be Your Sunshine + Acrylic Paint
Middle: China Glaze Riveting + Julep Nessa + Acrylic Paint
Pinkie: WetnWild 454D + Rainbow Honey Cymbidium

Right
Thumb: Orly Old School Orange + Acrylic Paint

Yay! That was kinda complicated, haha! I hope you like it. Check out the other entries, but you're all gonna vote for me, obvs. right? ;D

Just for good measure, here it is one more time <3

GUEST POST: Reana's New Year

PHEW, okay, I'm getting back in the swing of things here... I'm just really lazy about plugging in my phone and watermarking my photos. Still. My boyf made it easier and I still can't be bothered. Wow, Sharra, new levels for 2014, so proud.

Anyway, my friend did this gorgeous nail art for her New Year's Eve and it looks like a pretty awesome frosty party. She used Revlon Blue Lagoon over a base of Wet&Wild French White Creme. The tips are done with Witchcraft Nail Art in silver glitter and the glitter on the accents is Revlon Stunning. I think I may have to go looking for some of these...

I really like it! I'm always surprised by how much I enjoy non-traditional french manicures.

In lieu of her own social media, Reana asked me to link you to Translink Harrassment, which is the tip of the iceberg in problems men make for women that make us fear for our safety, and the bystander effect. It's some scary stuff.

What do you think? Silver just seems to remind everyone of NYE. I hope y'all had a good one!

NailPolishCanada.com Winter Nail Art Contest #2: Decorations!

Okay so I'm trying out this new phone with its 3MP (rather than 3.15MP) camera...

Aaaand it's super shit. SWITCHING BACK BRB.

So my BB is not so good at colour... But at least you can see what I put on my nails now.

This is piCture pOlish whimsy, with a glitter gradient of Glitzology Snow Day and then a string of lights drawn on with Sharpie and dotted with Orly Rockin Rockette, Julep Nessa, Gosh Holographic Hero and where there was space, WetnWild Caribbean Frosh (446C).

I'm on time at least =_=

NCC#4: Watercolour Nails!

A technique I haven't done before, just like I promised!

I started with China Glaze Bizarre Blurple and poked on my neons: Sally Hansen Blue Me Away, WarPaint Bad Apple and A Mile Away and Wet&Wild Fergalicious.

I then had a q-tip I had soaked in acetone and I just dabbed all around with it and the colours diluted and flattened out. It looks pretty cool in real life actually!

Because I only have gloopy Seche Vite for topcoat (and this definitely needs it) I used Sally Hansen Urban Chic, a scattered holo glitter topcoat to seal it all in.

Whoo! I did good! What do you think? Have you tried "watercolour" before?

NCC Neon #4

One more!! At the last second too. Sharra has finished a challenge month! WOOHOO! And it's good too :O

Anyway, over yesterday's Fergalicious and Candy, I did a freehand V-gap type thing in Sally Hansen Blue Me Away.

And then I added Sally Hansen Urban Chic and glitter tips with Fingerpaints Santa's Magic! Sometimes, I should just stop... this wasn't one of those times :D TEEHEE SPARKLY

Blurry pics for holo twinkle =3 Then, to make it a little more gradient-y I put China Glaze Make a Spectacle over the whole thing.

SO MUCH SPARKLY. I am happy.

Swatch: Wet 'n' Wild Fergalicious and KleanColor Chunky Holo Candy

NEON! So. I have 200+ bottles of nail polish and didn't have neon pink. Fixed that, though, didn't I ;D Two coats, though one was doing pretty fine. If you need a neon, here it is:

So, the glitter was disappointing but those "chunky" holos didn't really pan out. Good thing they're cheap (but stinky).

I'm gonna squeeze one more neon mani in so come back tomorrow k? :D

What's your favourite neon colour?

NCC Neons #3

D: Omg a challenge post. Srsly, I don't know why they put up with me, I am the laziest. And lately, quite uninspired.

Luckily for me today, I have socks.

I started with a coat of Essence Black is Back (obvs). I then frenched using my new neon pink, Wet 'n' Wild Fergalicious (swatch soon). I used my dotting tool after that to poke little hearts and stars with Fergalicious, Sally Hansen Blue Me Away, and WarPaints A Mile Away and Bad Apple.

From here, I used Black is Back again to fill in the centre of the shapes. The stars look rather flowery but I did my best anyway.

I needed a topcoat and since these were neon already, my Black Light topcoat appeared to be a good idea.

Can you tell? It legit turned the black purple! Last time I thought it was just because the grey was a light colour but nope! So keep that in mind if you guys get one of these. It purples.

Anyway, you thought I was kidding about the socks, right?

You should know better =3

Happy Anniversary of The Nail Challenge Collaborative!

=O It's been a year! Way back when Hannah from Polished Prisms (a blog sadly closed now) started her first challenge list, I tagged myself on and eventually invited myself into the facebook group (haha awkward >_>;). There were lots of manicures throughout the year and this time we're doing a little more collaboration. Each month we'll choose a theme, and in honour of our first challenge, this month's theme is Pastels <3

(Remember last Easter? ;) )

I dug through all my polish and found my rainbow of pastels (I'm missing pink lol!)

The colours I used were Julep Emmanuelle and Hayden, WetnWild 423C, Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet and Essence You Belong to Me and Dress for a Moment.

I started with Julep Kate as a base. It is still bubbly and gross.

I freehanded curvy stripes. ALL THE LUMPS.
Not terrible though, even though you can't really see the pink. Emmanuelle is quite transparent.
 Then China Glaze Make a Spectacle caught my eye. I love this polish so much x_X;

Lovely! The colours blended really nicely actually <3

That concludes this anniversary post =) What do you think? Can you recommend a pastel/baby pink?

Check out all the pretty anniversary pastels! Perfect for spring!
