Poutine: The Spud Shack

Well it has been a long time since I had one of these, hasn't it!? My glorious friend Paul graciously introduced me to this fantastic little place, right by New Westminster skytrain station and it was really good! I wish I'd gotten better photos.

I got a medium for $7, and they also serve beer and other things. I forgot to get a photo of the menu! Sorry!

The gravy was really good and the cheese was actually squeaky! Personally, I don't put a lot of weight on squeaky cheese but I know some people want to know things like that. I actually like stronger tasting cheese, honestly, and it wasn't that melty despite the hot, delicious gravy. The fries were also very light and crispy, which was awesome.

I got the regular poutine, but for all you veggies out there, there is a vegan option and that's pretty cool. I might go back to try that one.

SO, how does this stack up?
  1. Dunn's Famous
  2. Preston's
  3. Brado Pizza
  4. Mean Poutine
  5. Zako's Deli
  6. The Kaboom Box
  7. Club Ilia
  8. Spud Shack
  9. Belgian Fries
  10. Frenchies
  11. La Poutinerie
  12. Fritz
  13. La Belle Patate
  14. The Cambie
  15. The Metropole Community Pub
  16. Dougie Dog
That's not very high, is it? D: It was really really good though. The problem is,  I remember those other ones being better somehow. This definitely beat the Belgian though, which had great cheese, but watery gravy.

Poutine: Brado Pizza

Today was a good day for food and for walking AKA not-being-a-walrusing-slob. I planned a date with an old coworker (whom I scarred for life on his second day, and he actually came back talking to me of his own free will xP) and invited some of my poutine-friends =D I had to find a vegetarian option and google led me to Brado Pizza on 1399 Commercial Drive - a fifteen minute walk north from the station.

We went in and got a large poutine pizza (IT IS A THING)... (~$15)

It was massive. Lookit all these attractive people enjoying this shit...

Ooooh yeah, baby...

Paul is ready to attack this nom. (Ain't he cute?)

Rowr! (My mouth was full of delicious fry)

This is an extra large poutine, which we got after the pizza... I know. It was $11 though =O

Soooooo good. The pizza was a good kick. You would never guess it was completely vegetarian! The owner came by - a Montreal native. I think and he was saying it's real Canadian Pizza, since poutine isn't anywhere else in the world xP He was really adorable. He also deserves waaay more business than he's been getting. He attributed it to Canadian attitude, we need to hear that it's good before we go try something ourselves.

SO HERE IT IS FELLOW CANADIANS AND VANCOUVERITES. It's AMAZEBALLS.

It's not beer gravy, or Dunn's, but dang it was good.

Poutine: Belgian Fries!

1885 Commercial Drive, Vancouver

This is a really nice restaurant, I gotta say. I got the large, which was MASSIVE. If you eat in, they give it to you in a bowl. My friend got the medium size, here's the picture of them side by side.

Halfway...

GONE.
Okay, so the fries were light and fluffy which was great starting out, but means they got soggy quickly. The vegetarian gravy wasn't too bad, though a little weak compared to some very salty/fatty gravies I've had. The cheese is the best I've had so far. It was really freaking good, and in huge chunks. Oh migawd, the cheese. I don't know what else to say about this. It didn't have as strong a flavour as the other ones, but the fries and the cheese put it above Frenchies. Zako's Deli was much more flavourful though, so it's not going higher than that.
