Rainbow Honey Winter Nail Art Entries (S&T)

Hi guys! Happy Monday! Rainbow Honey had a contest over the last weekend or so, asking for nail art so of course we obliged, especially given Sharra's enormous RH collection.

It was a good night :D

Blah blah blah nails!!

Tiffany's Contest Entry
So I decided to do some ice skating themed nail art for my entry! I really love ice skating. I took lessons from age 5 until I was 16. Some of my favourite memories revolve around ice arenas! Anyways I always reminisce about the good old days around the holidays. :)

Alright so lets break it down by nail:

Index and Middle Fingers:
I used OPI Alpine Snow (White creme) for the base. Then I kind of water coloured Rainbow Honey Bubblebeam on top to make it look like ice. I used Rainbow Honey Skyward Bot for the swirls and snowflakes. Then topped those two nails with Enchanted Polishes Djinn in a Bottle (Holographic linear top coat) and Rainbow Honey Tessellate. I LOVED the effect Tessellate added! It really looks like ice shards!

Ring Finger:
This one got Rainbow Honey Lumine Hall as the base and then skate was Alpine Snow (white), Essie Licorice (black), RH Annual Emotion (silver blade) and Bubblebeam for a shadow effect! Then the background was coated in Djinn in a Bottle and Tessellate.

Pinky and Thumb:
I used Rainbow Honey Charaxes as the base and did a gradient with Bubblebeam and Rainbow Honey The Worst Possible Thing. Then they got snowflakes with Alpine Snow, Djinn in a Bottle and Tessellate!

That's it!! Simple really! Hahaha Happy Holidays everyone!

Sharra's Contest Entry
Alright, my turn! I started with Rainbow Honey Sapphire (two coats), and layered on ILNP Gaia (from the new flakie collection!) halfway down the nail.

And then I took OPI Alpine Snow... and MAGIC. I used a striping brush from bornprettystore for most of it and the polish brush for the rest. I took inspiration from an instagram post from piCture pOlish by Sassy Shelly (@sassyshelly129), check it out here: http://instagram.com/p/wpMh58p3q1/?modal=true

This is my favourite. It turned out really well :D Unfortunately, it peeled too soon and I did a bit of fixing up to make it last a little longer. On the nails that came off, I put Rainbow Honey Sapphire Weapon back up, with ILNP Gaia and then Glitzology Snow Day over it. I also matted it, which I should have done MUCH sooner because it looks fantastic. Oh well, got my time's worth out of this one!

Did anybody else enter? Show us your manis!

NailPolishCanada.com Winter Nail Art Contest #2: Decorations!

Okay so I'm trying out this new phone with its 3MP (rather than 3.15MP) camera...

Aaaand it's super shit. SWITCHING BACK BRB.

So my BB is not so good at colour... But at least you can see what I put on my nails now.

This is piCture pOlish whimsy, with a glitter gradient of Glitzology Snow Day and then a string of lights drawn on with Sharpie and dotted with Orly Rockin Rockette, Julep Nessa, Gosh Holographic Hero and where there was space, WetnWild Caribbean Frosh (446C).

I'm on time at least =_=

Swatch: Glitzology Boy Girl Party

I am amazingly happy with this combination. Starting with yesterday's RH Dusty Bot I added Glitzology Boy Girl Party. One of my favourite things about Glitzology is actually how I am always surprised by what I get in the bottle. In this bottle, you can see pink, blue, squares, hexes, bars, shards. But did you expect the little blue stars? <3!

To get this kind of coverage I did some dabbing and I didn't dig at all for any of it. Love it!

Glitzology has a Facebook and an Etsy shop =3 If you can get in on one of her sales, do it!

Swatch: Glitzology Marley

I had to give Bitty Love Bot the attention it deserves (and I wasn't feeling the effort to do Raichu with my off hand) so that means GLITTER.

I chose Glitzology Marley. This is a mix that's different sizes of red, yellow and green matte glitter. It's actually a tough one to match to a base. I didn't want to pick a colour that would drown any of the colours. I think I did okay. Kinda Christmassy, but judging by the weather lately we skipped summer anyway.

Hurrah glitter! Glitzology has a Facebook page and an Etsy shop.

Cuba 2013 #2: Pirates!

(I warn you now, it's gonna be a long post.)

One of the things about the island is that the wildlife is fantastic especially considering tropics + island vs Canadian "temperate rainforest". We don't have neat little lizards and fantastic birds! The best thing I've seen flying around BC is a raven and that thing looks dangerous.

With that omen, I want to talk about a bird Branden and I saw when we were speeding around the ocean on our Catamaran tour. Ours was called the Antares and us and 60 people met a dolphin and snorkeled before being deposited on a white sand beach for lobster lunch and an hour in the blue.

Some scenery:

It was gorgeous, and none of these even includes that white sand beach. Anyway, we saw these birds soaring over the ocean, usually near shore but also between the islands we were going by (nearly open sea).

They had fantastically long wings that looked like seagulls we were used to but they were black as night. Their tails also forked when they were balancing to hover in the air. I never saw them on water, and only at a distance in the air. Anyway, I eventually managed to find them late one night online.

The wings are longer than they look! Anybody know what it is?

Apparently it's the Magnificent Frigatebird! Fregata magnificens. They are considered pirates because they steal their meals from other birds along with skimming the surface for whatever floats near the surface.

I made my tribute in acrylic paint and this is my first time doing a design that spans all my nails. Positioning is HARD! I have a new appreciation for anyone who can pull this type of nail art off. I painted over Orly Viridian Vinyl and Glitzology My Viking Boyfriend.

I had so much trouble identifiying the Frigatebird because all the photos are of its fantastic mating display. They have an inflatable pouch on their neck that turns BRIGHT RED.

Look at that sexy thang! For the record, I only saw them in flight, at sea.

I noticed the birds because I have a friend who loves them! I noticed these particular birds because they were incredibly graceful in the air, and their elongated wings and long forked tails were extremely aesthetically pleasing (I like long and skinny - you may have noticed by my boyfriend but it's also in cheetahs, greyhounds and thoroughbreds - things built for speed!).

Do you guys notice wildlife when you travel? What kind?

PS: Shoutouts to my daddy! It's his birthday <3
