Happy Pride 2k15 Vancouver!

Happy Pride, Vancouver! I might be going to the parade today and then Bard on the Beach after dinner downtown with Branden's parents. MAY also take my towel and a change of clothes and makeup down with me and dunk myself in the ocean - my first time swimming this summer. It has not been good times for me lately, man.

Anyway, y'all know pride means rainbows so here's the toolkit from left to right:

OPI Alpine Snow, Julep January, Orly Old School Orange, Essence Wanna Be Your Sunshine, Julep Leah, Julep Marisa, Essence Passion for Fashion, Cult Nails Nakizzle's Shizzle (swatch forthcoming), ILNP My Private Rainbow (not pictured), Rainbow Honey Royal Fruits topcoat.

After swatching CN Nakizzle's Shizzle and covering that with ILNP My Private Rainbow, I frenched the tips with OPI Alpine Snow, the best white ever.

Manually! Freehand! (I didn't have time to wait for the polish to dry enough to put down paper reinforcements.)

Then, just on the tips, a dab of each of those colours.

Because there was no way to get the white strip even, I used the dotting tool to give the sense of fluffy clouds.

Pre-cleanup!

Look at that glorious mess.

Post cleanup :D

I like it! It's a little bit subtle but still pays homage to Pride.

Gonna stand on my soapbox here for a second. It's pretty great that the US finally joined the rest of North America in allowing its citizens to get married, but in many states it is still perfectly legal to be fired immediately upon exercising their civil rights. On top of that, with queer visibility increasing children are coming out younger and younger which leaves them vulnerable to the wills of last-generation bigoted parents. In the US, estimates of homeless queer youth (limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender in their studies) approach 40%, with an incredible overrepresentation for trans* youth. Many are driven to suicide. Pride, and visibility, is a celebration of life, a challenge to the laws and societies that oppress people based on who they love and important in the light of the terrible laws being passed in places like Uganda which allows a lifetime jail sentence just for falling in love (or for fucking, and whose business is that?). My point is Pride is important. And whatever you dis/agree with, if you ever vote to change laws to take people's rights from them, you are a piece of shit.

For the sake of visibility, I'm bi. Queer rights are human rights. Keep fighting and if you're not straight/cis and struggling, remember there's resources to keep you going until you can get out of the terrible place you're stuck in at the moment.

Swatch: Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black (T)

Hey guys, I found this post I completely forgot about from back in October!! Damn my nails are long here!!! Wahhh I miss them!

So you may have noticed that the majority of my pictures are taken outside. This is because my camera is temperamental and only takes nice photos in natural light. Also because I like photos to be true to colour. That way what you see here is really what it looks like in real life. But as the weather is getting worse and worse I've been thinking about setting up a light box. I still haven't quite mastered it and I had to pull a ton of the orange lighting out on the computer. So I feel like these aren't my best shots, but here's my first light box experiment photos. *EDIT* I gave up on the light box after this because it fell apart, boyfriend is an engineering student so he has been making me one, but its been like a month since we've had time!

Anyways this is Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black Over OPI Black Onyx. This is a green to red glitter duochrome in a black jelly base. Its actually Sharra's, not mine btw.

These last two are in natural light

While I really like the look of this polish and I think its fairly unique, I'm not in love with the black base. I really wish it was a sheer base because then you could do so much more with it!!! Sigh. Oh well. It's still pretty cool and very shifty!

Swatch: ILNP Supernova (T)

Hi Blaghers! Its been a while! I'm sorry, I've been on a polish hiatus to help heal my broken, sad nails. But I'm back!! I've been absolutely dying to wear these new ILNP ultrachrome flakies. They've been sitting on my makeup desk for a month just mocking me!

Ok so this isn't actually the first one I've put on, but I wasn't happy with either of the first two (not because of the polish just because of the combos I did) so I held off until I did this one!

Alright so I did 1 thick coat of supernova over two coats of OPI Viking in a Vinter Vonderland which is a dark eggplant purple creme. I'm actually mildly irritated with the crappy time I had with Viking in a Vinter Vonderland. I don't know if it just hated my base coat or what, but it was dragging and patchy and too thick. I think I'll thin it before I use it again. Its also boarder-line black the majority of the time which isn't exactly how I wanted it to look.

Supernova shifts from: green - turquiouse - pink - fushia - just a teeny bit of yellow
Mostly it stays half green half pink indoors.

Can you see the yellow on the edge of my middle and ring fingers?! So cool!

It looks like green and purple dragon scales here!!!

This is with the flash, you can really see the purple base here

Hope you guys liked my photos! I'll be doing a few from this collection for the next while I believe I bought 5 of them and Sharra and I are expecting a package from Rainbow Honey soon so we'll have some new colors from them to swatch too!!

At least Christmas is over (S)

Hey everyone! I hope January has started smoothly for all of you! I have an oldie today, some crappy nail art I did around the time that I swatched OPI Germanicure. I basically just used RH Gilded Angel and RH Glittering Rapture to freehand some nail art skittles. The colours worked really well together, even if the design isn't that great heh.

The colours work REALLY well together, and it matched my lipstick (Kat Von D Vampira) so for me it was a win-win, despite the design execution.

#PinkForLeelah (S&T)

Hi everyone. I'm sure anyone who care to follow this kind of news has heard by now of Leelah Alcorn, the 17 year old transgender girl who died by suicide at the end of last year. In her own suicide letter queued on her tumblr (now removed by tumblr staff at the demand of her tormentors but visible here) she cited her parents' adamant rejection and emotional torture as the reason.

Though she wanted her worldly possessions to be donated to organizations helping transgender youth, it is highly unlikely that her parents will honour that request and so if you have extra stuff you don't want anymore or can spare a little change this month, consider donating to the organizations such as TransOhio and the Kaleidoscope Youth Center. And honestly, if you're looking to destash some of your unloved nail polishes, these kinds of organizations would love to rehome your old stuff to people who will treasure it and you can find them locally with a bit of work.

If you need help, there are countless hot lines (listed at the end of this post) and if you are transgender, there are other transgender people willing to listen and talk with you at crisis lines like Trans LifeLine and they are also expanding service to Canada (US: 877-565-8860 / Canada: 877-330-6366) and also organizations like Ally Moms for those of you with shitty parents.

Despite public outcry, her parents lie, misgender and continue to disrespect Leelah in her death. Her mother's Facebook post also did not cite her daughter's correct age and attempted to lie about the cause of death. If nothing else, as a US citizen please exercise your right to elicit change in your laws and government by pressuring the president to ban conversion therapy that is so detrimental to vulnerable youth.

Sharra's Nails
Anyway, this is what I'm wearing. I used  China Glaze Fast Track and Wish on a Starfish. I didn't want anything to pull attention from that pink nail so I chose the most neutral thing I could while still maintaining coherence across my hands.

I attempted to subdue the shiny with NYC Matte Me Crazy topcoat but it didn't seem to work. Side note though, that brush is glorious.

My hope is, like the Transgender Day of Remembrance post I did in 2012, that this sparkle starts some conversations and results in some really good education.

Tiffany's Nails
Hi guys, sorry I haven't been posting very much lately, my nails have been successively breaking one after another... ugh. The winter air is frying my hair, my skin and my nails. I haven't been wearing nail polish for a while, but I felt this was too important to not do something for. My heart breaks for this girl and I am especially, incredibly saddened by the actions of her parents (or lack there of). My mother actually said something that stuck with me today when I talked to her about it, "when people get married they make vows to always stick by one another through sickness and in health, for better and for worse, and yet when you have a child you make no such vows to stick with them." She's absolutely right. So I want to vow to my future children (should I be so lucky to have any) that no matter who they are, what gender they are or who they choose to love, I will never abandon them, disown them or stop loving them. Leelah, I really hope your story and the stories of others in the LGTBTQ+ community inspire people change their intolerant views, regardless of their personal sexual orientations, gender identities and religions. Let's love, not hate. <3

Ok so for the nail polish I did a gradient of OPI Alpine Snow and OPI Don't Burst My Bubble on all my nails, but the ring finger. The ring finger got 3 coats of OPI Teenage Dream. I topped everything with Rainbow Honey Papillion, which just seemed perfect to me with the butterflies all through it. Hope you guys like it.

Final Message
If you intend to be a parent, make sure that you are prepared to love the child you get. If you believe in an omniscient, omnipotent and Perfect God, understand that He has made everyone perfectly.
