TLDoS#9 Thirst Quencher

When I saw the list of nail art I get to do in this challenge, this is one I had a clear image of right away. It's nothing spectacular, but I like it, and the bright colours look AMAZING on my now tan skin =D

So starting with Essence Lime Up and Wanna Be Your Sunshine, I painted on a half circle with Ulta Snow White, and some spokes - like lemons and limes! My nails go with Maribeth's today too xD Great minds think alike!

Free hand semi circles =D

Painted with my off hand
I decided if I was going to have lemon/lime-ade, I wanted it fizzy! I went over then ail (except the lemon/lime itself) with my Odilles!

Odille 49 over all the limes...

Odille 74 over all lemons

Of course the first thing I did when I left the house was wreck my thumbs, but ignore that - they look pretty cute!

So this is a success (except for that thumb). I hope it'll stick for a while =)

Swatch: Essence Lime Up + Wanna Be Your Sunshine

Alright, today you get a double =D If you've been paying attention, you'll probably be able to guess what I have in mind for this set up but if not, don't worry, that'll be up soon enough ;)

First up, Lime Up!
I used 3 or 4 coats for this round of Lime Up, but it's a good thick creme, and I could have gotten away with two if I wasn't such a slob =)

Quite colour accurate here.

Apologies for the blur
Next, Wanna Be Your Sunshine, also from Essence.

Pretty yellow creme with a leeeeettle bit of shimmer
This I used 3 coats for, just to even out the last baldy bits. The last time I used this, it was HORRENDOUSLY bubbly, but it seems to have gotten over that bit =)

Now it's perfectly lovely. This is colour accurate, it is very rich

The subtle shimmer makes me think "fizzy"
Hmmm, yellow and fizzy ehhhh? ;)

What do you think? Not bad for $1.60/bottle yeah? Any guesses on the next post?

TLDoS#8 In The Garden

I had trouble with this one. In the end I decided to feature something I loved seeing when the weather got nice, but that I don't really see anymore at all...

Caterpillars!

Prior clean up

Again, prior clean up
So if you don't recognize this fuzzy crap, it's called flocking and it's used to make terrain for models. My boyfriend paints and builds miniatures (remember the last post?) and he offered some up to stick to my nails.

I was a little worried about using it. It's very light, you have to not breathe over it too heavily. I was also worried about how to get it to stick, and whether it will wash off. Anyway, these are the steps I used.
  1. I painted on Wet&Wild 446C and I wore that alone for a day, just to make sure it was COMPLETELY dry.
  2. I painted on a little oval using my LA Colors striper for the eye of my caterpillar and I waited for it to dry entirely.
  3. Using my Golden Rose clear nail polish (NON-quick dry) I painted on circular shapes like a segmented caterpillar across one nail.
  4. Dipped my finger into the container of flocking and lifted
  5. Repeat for each nail
  6. Wait for drying. This leaves you at the step above, a little messy. Wait for the drying! I waited ten minutes or so, just in case.
  7. I went to the bathroom sink and ran water over them to take off the excess flocking.
  8. Surprise! It worked! It stuck where it should, it washed off where I didn't want it =D
  9. I ended with one more layer of clear topcoat and waited fore that to dry.
Voila!

Again =D
So my nails look ridiculous right now, this is a major nail art fail. BUT the flocking application was NOT a fail, and I'm going to keep this in mind if I ever want weird textured grassy nails xD

Sorry guys! =P

Everyone else DEFINITELY did better, check it out!

Eleven!

I got tagged again =D By the beautiful, wonderful Deb at Beauty Ninja (she is so good to me~). This appears to be the Liebster award without the award xD

Here are the rules:
  1. You have to post 11 things about yourself
  2. Answer the 11 questions that your tagger set for you, and then make up 11 more for the people you tag
  3. Choose 11 people and link them in your post
  4. Go to their pages and tell them
  5. No tag backs.

Things About Me:
  1. I love math. I don't remember if I've said this. I've done up to Calculus II in first year university and I still love math.
  2. I just downloaded Gargoyles and the Wild Thornberrys and that is definitely what I am doing for the rest of the summer when I'm at home ;)
  3. I just approved of my Branden spending $135 on an assortment of Dungeons and Dragon Models via Kickstarter... I'm kind of excited to see him paint them all!
  4. On that note, my boyfriend has 4+ boxes of Magic Cards, and 4 armies of Warhammer (Tyranids, Undead, Orcs, Wood Elves). That's as much nerd as I can bear to tell you about in one sitting =P
  5. I'm going to Owl City in September at the Commodore Ballroom and I am really excited!
  6. My cuticles are gross for two reasons. First, I have a terrible habit of picking off any non-conforming skin and second, I have eczema, which dries everything out, making it more visible, which I then pick off. I thank everyone for not commenting on them =P I'm probably not going to be self conscious about it or care as much as every other nail-blogger does, so I appreciate that you're here for the purty pictures on them, rather than the slightly ratty frame <3
  7. I have a lot of Julep, but I think my favourite big brand is China Glaze, and I wish it was easier for me to get them up here (for less than $8).
  8. I am a rather frugal shopper. I'm just picky. If it's a shirt (tee or tank), I won't pay more than $12 for it, and usually that only if there's a BOGO deal.
  9. I use an epilator for hair removal. (I dunno, maybe you were curious!) - I've had the same one for 9 years or more. It's an excellent investment.
  10. I've been through depression, and I watched a couple of my friends do it too. Luckily, we made it, but I know of one guy from my high school who didn't =( If you need help, get it. The counsellors might not be your thing but something will do it. Communicate. You'll be alright.
  11. I'm pretty fascinated by Schizophrenia. One of those things in psychology I would really like to study.

And here are the questions Deb asked me:
  1. What is your favorite magazine? I think my favourite magazine is one I used to get as a kid - World by National Geographic. It's fun and full of facts and gorgeous images... I was a Kratt's Kreatures addict.
  2. What is your favorite snack? CHIPS. Have we been over this? Potatoes! POTATOES IN EVERY WAY. Sour cream and onion chips, fries, scalloped, baked omg everything all the time in my mouth. IN MY MOUTH.
  3. What is your favorite time of day? Can I be really specific? Y'know when you wake up and the sun is streaming through your window and the temperature is perfect like in late spring? So you get up and get ready perfectly refreshed and walk to where ever you need to go? Yeah that.
  4. Which do you prefer-gold or silver? Gold! I can't wear silver anymore, my skin hates everything but gold.
  5. What is your favorite holiday? See, I love dressing up for Halloween, but ever since I started having Christmas with Branden's family, it's become my favourite. I love buying people presents, the food, the presents for me, more food. Omg the food. Yeah. /drooling
  6. What type of music do you like to listen to? I have no idea. The bands for whom I have all the albums are Anberlin, Arctic Monkeys, Owl City, Hot Chelle Rae, Keane, Three Days Grace and Taylor Swift. Figure that one out!
  7. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? Anywhere from four hours to ten minutes, depending on how long I walrused around in bed before I had to leave. If I have to make lunch, I need at least 40 minutes to get it all done.
  8. How long does it take you to get ready for bed? I don't have a night regime, we'll say 5 minutes in case I brush my teeth. Otherwise I just strip all and flop.
  9. How often do you wash your makeup brushes? Lol never? I don't use a lot though.
  10. How much do you spend on beauty products a week? Not much! I go on binges and spend up to $25 I guess, but that doesn't happen often. My purchases have mostly been Julep Maven boxes.
  11. How many of your personal friends know about your blog? Whoever has facebook. I tend to spam it =P

Here's everyone I'm tagging:
  1. Elizabeth at Did My Nails
  2. Michelle at Ehmkay Nails
  3. Alyssa at Frugal Polish
  4. Karine at Karinea0a

  2. What outfit or clothing item do you own that makes you feel super sexy?
  3. Do feel like you need to do make up to leave the house?
  4. How much water do you drink per day?
  5. What are you superstitious about?
  6. What's your favourite colour? Are most of the things you own in that colour?

  8. What terrible-for-you shows do you love to watch?
  9. Munchies! What do you crave?

  11. Do you have any other buying addictions? What are they?

Swatch: Wet&Wild 446C

Two coats!

Colour accurate =)

So shiny

Use thin coats!
So if you used thin coats, you'll avoid bubbles entirely =D I think I used 3 coats just to make sure it's all nice but it was opaque in two. I don't have much to say about this. I think it's at least 3 years old and still going strong. One of my favourite greens =) For reference (swatches later I'm sure), Essence Choose Me! and Essence Out of My Mind are more bluish in comparison.

To end:
Look! Some weird flowers!

Poutine #6: Frenchies on our downtown day!

Frenchies is on 425 Dunsmuir (under construction scaffolding right now so it's easy to miss.) It's diner style with the red couch seats and little round corner tables. I wish I'd gotten a picture of the place but there was this enormous $12 poutine in front of me.

It was enormous. And BBQ Pulled Pork Poutine.

Three of us split it. Three.
You can check out the whole menu on their website

For poutine rank, this is #3 taste-wise, but #1 price-wise. That said, we're going by taste (my blog my rules lol) so here's your list:
  1. Dunn's Famous
  2. Preston's
  3. Frenchies
  4. La Poutinerie
  5. Fritz
  6. La Belle Patate
Check out the updated list here <3
If this is all you came for, you're done now, otherwise keep reading =)

I was trying to convince my friend to get herself a corset, but we settled on the next best thing.

That's right, pin-up style (?) cherry print dress ;)
She looks so fantastic right! (from Venus and Mars on Richards I believe.)

Then we went up the street to Dressew, which is never open on weekends, and we found hats.
Pimpin' cowgirl
And then we went for dessert!
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Chocolate Covered Caramel Apple ($8)
And dinner!
Nando's half chicken with side
We walked into Nando's and there was a sign! Apparently on Tuesdays they have this thing where you get TWO of those plates above (two! and you pick your side - I got rice, bf got fries) for, ready for this? $16. Fuck yeah we did!
Suncreen heart squirt =D
And that was my day! How was yours?

Swatch: Rainbow Honey The Worst Possible Thing

Glitteeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr >___________<
Oh my god it's so beautiful.
This look took only one coat of Rainbow Honey!
Squeeeeee

>_<
Rainbow Honey the Worst Possible Thing over Essence A Lovely Secret. I love it. It is fantastic. I love it so much. So much. So glad I bought the whole set of minis. How am I ever going to take this off?? <3!

In the sun/cloud - outside anyway

So purty x_x
I've had this on for two days so far and yesterday I was walking to the bus station and made a friend on the way.
It liked my nails!
The lady bug sat there for 10 minutes before moving along my hand xD My first fan! After that it stayed on my hand for another 20 minutes almost - almost 2 km of walking! It was pretty bizarre but I'm glad I had a friend to keep me company on the long walk down.

Happy Hump Day!

EDIT: NEW PICS, BRIGHT SUN SQUEEEEEE!

Look at that glint!

So beautiful x_X Dying of happiness
You can buy Rainbow Honey here and like the Facebook page for swatches!
