NCC November #2: BLUE, and The Last Unicorn

At this point, most of the people I meet are too young to remember one of my favourite movies: The Last Unicorn, which is based on a book by Peter S Beagle by the same name. And by based I mean almost word for word transcribed to an animated movie. It is a masterpiece and has so far survived 31 years as a movie, and 45 years as a book...

Anyway, as a child it was one of my favourites, and early last week I found out that The Last Unicorn screening tour was actually flipping up over the border and was going to be in a theater KIND OF near me! And my boyfriend obliged like the wonderful gentleman he is <3 He drove me and my friend to watch this movie and meet the author to get stuff signed. It was AWESOME.

This photo was taken after the movie, and Beagle was so tired... I felt really bad, but not bad enough to not wait in line anyway. I wanted to spend my money.

Clearly, piCture pOlish whimsy was made for this fandom, and ever since Branden and his pretty blue eyes, that colour has been creeping into regular use like it never has before.... I used acrylic paint and a dotting tool to add a little unicorn to each ring finger nail.

And just to demonstrate my dedication and assure you I didn't give up for my non-dominant hand...

AND, in case you were wondering, here is my loot. I got the two novels signed, and the print too and I bought the print and the white hardcover graphic novel (which makes me cry it's so beautiful) at the event.

My fellow Last Unicorns, arise and squeal with me!

Swatch: piCture pOlish whimsy

I wish my camera was better behaved! I swear it looked fine when I took these photos! Anyway look at this colour! LOOK AT IT. It's... iridescent. UNF.

I did three to four coats, though you could have gotten away with two.

I don't even have words.

Fun fact though, this was the colour of my prom dress...

Clearly I'm a sucker for this particular hue. What's your weakness? Feel free to show me your prom dresses too xD

NCC November #1: Favourite Colour

My favourite colour was always green at first. I tried to do the "distressed look" made famous by CN Nails (as usual, haha). It didn't work as well for me, partially because of colour choice but here you go. I used Essence Black is Back over two coats of China Glaze Holly Day.

Because I used two dark colours, it was really hard to see. I tried to put a thin layer of ILNP Mutagen between them but it didn't really work. In real life it looked a little better, but not much. Oh well...

Everyone else did better <3

Swatch: China Glaze Holly Day

Alright, round two of attempting to get inspired! Up until relatively recently, my favourite colour had been green, maybe because it was my mom's favourite colour. I looked at the greens I hadn't touched yet and I saw China Glazy Holly Day, which is the answer to my dark green prayers, and was sent to me by the lovely author of Nails for the Sake of Sanity.

Anyway, just like every other CG I own, two coats.

I apologize for my terrible lighting and photos. Apparently this day just wasn't working for me....

To brighten it up a little, I tried to add a single thin layer of ILNP Mutagen. It sort of worked.

Bah. Stay tuned, though this doesn't really get better for a bit.

Swatch: Zoya Pixie Dust Beatrix

Phew! Okay! It's been a long week or two... I've lost track of time. Anyway, I was trying to get all in the mood for this month's NCC post set, which is favourite colour! As you know, orange is definitely one of the favourites so despite the fact that this colour is amazing, I wasn't incredibly inspired. Bah.

Oh well, check this out (2 coats).

Sexy, right? Those textures will never get old for me.

What's your favourite of the Pixie Dusts you've seen so far??

The PokeNail Challenge: FIGHTING

I WILL CATCH UP I SWEAR. This one's a quickie because it didn't turn out as nice as I'd planned...

Starting with KB Shimmer Proud Peacock and striping with Julep Otte.

Who does it remind you of? :D

Swatch: KB Shimmer Proud Peacock

This is another polish I got in my Harlow&Co grab bag, made possible by winning the giveaway from A Painted Nail =3

I'm gonna be honest that it's not my favourite, but I know lots of people would be super impressed. (If you are one of those people and might like this polish, we can maybe work something out).

It took three coats to opacity, and as I was doing my nails with it, the only thought in my head was, "how can there be THAT much glitter in this brush???" :D I would call this a blue crelly btw, if anyone is wondering.

What do you think? Do you like this colour? Are there any other KB Shimmer favourites of yours?
